Story
We completed the challenge in a time of 23 hours and 2 minutes! Although we managed to finish with 58 minutes to spare, the challenge was not all plain sailing. We were up against it from the very beginning with our hire vehicle being delivered 3 hours late and not to the correct location!! This meant that we arrived in Norwich at 8.56pm (after battling with the rush hour traffic to get there!). We then set off around the 6 London teams followed by a trip down to the south coast. By this time the weather was beginning to worsen and driving conditions were becoming difficult!
We then made our way from Bournemouth to Swansea and then to the Midlands and Merseyside, it then occurred to us that we would be arriving at Old Trafford in Manchester after 5.15pm, there was a charity match for UNICEF taking place at the stadium and if we had have arrived at the expected time, we would have had to contend with the traffic caused by 70,000+ supporters leaving the stadium, this would almost certainly have meant that we would fail in our challenge of completing all 20 stadiums in 24 hours. We decided to have a reshuffle of our route and managed to arrive at Old Trafford at just before 5pm (minutes before the full time whistle!
After leaving Manchester we then headed up to the North East, by now the rain was extremely heavy and the fog was very thick, we could barely see the vehicle ahead of us and the roads became more and more congested! We managed to keep our cool and arrived in Sunderland at 7.25pm and then pushed on with the final leg of our journey on to Newcastle, arriving at 7.58pm!
It is a great achievement and we all felt relieved and elated (and exhausted) upon arrival in Newcastle!
I would personally like to say thank you to all of the guys who took part in this challenge- Dav, Sukh, Tim, Kesh, Dee and Nav were all brilliant and played a huge part in the success of this challenge! As soon as I told them that I wanted to do this for cancer research following my mum’s illness, they didn’t hesitate in putting themselves forward in joining me and have been incredible with their fund raising and planning. Also, I want to thank our sponsors CPBigwood, Bond Wolfe, REI, Mattioli Woods and TestOut. Also, a big thank you to Michelle and the team at Event Signs for providing us with a magnetic banner for our vehicle, it looked great!
Lastly I would like to say a special thank you to my colleagues Anna, Perm, Sue, Kylie and Rachael who have helped me plan the event from the very start and it probably wouldn’t have been possible without them!
Gurps, Sukh, Dav, Kesh, Tim, Dee & Nav are attempting to visit all20 Premier League Football Stadiums in 24 Hours on 13th-14th November in aid of Cancer Research UK!
Gurpreet's mum was recently diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. Having undergonesurgery and radiotherapy, she is thankfully now in the recovery period.
Unfortunately, since starting this fund raising campaign, Dav and Sukh have lost a close cousin to cancer.
This cause is very close to many of our hearts, as we have all shared similar experiences with family members.
We are all huge football fansand have set ourselves a challenge to attempt to reach all 20 Premier LeagueFootball Stadiums in 24 hours by car. To ensure that all monies raised goto Cancer Research UK, the cost of the vehicle hire and fuel have been covered.
We wish to raise funds to help one day rid the world of this horrible disease!
