Story
On January 30th of this year, Joan Price was tragically killed in a Road Traffic Accident. Her work colleagues at North Ayrshire Council wanted to do something in memory of Joan, and have decided to undertake a fun walk from Irvine to Troon on Saturday 6th May, a few days before Joan would have celebrated her 60th birthday.
Joan’s family would like any money, kindly donated in her memory, to be given to Holly McLeod, a local girl who is heading off to America soon for surgery.
Holly was born very prematurely at 25wks and as a result she has Cerebral Palsy. She was diagnosed at 2 yrs old and it became apparent soon after that she wouldn't walk. After lots of research Holly’s parents found Dr TS Park in St Louis who is the pioneering surgeon for SDR - Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy. This has been life changing surgery for many children as it has enabled them to lead a more independent life free from spasticity and pain, and in many cases children have been able to walk whether it be independently or using aides. This surgery isn't available to Holly on the NHS, however she has been accepted as a suitable candidate by Dr Park to have the procedure carried out in St Louis Childrens Hospital in Misssouri USA, which has to be funded by Holly’s parents.
Thank you to all Joan’s friends and colleagues for organising this walk, and we hope you are able to make a donation to help Holly with her journey.
